The Nigerian international has joined former Hibs and Livingston team-mate Marvin Bartley at Queen of the South.

The Doonhamers confirmed the experienced defender’s arrival this lunchtime.

Ambrose had been on trial at Cove Rangers this summer but failed to win a move to Aberdeenshire.

He will be back at the Balmoral Stadium to face Paul Hartley‘s side this season though after pitching up with Bartley in League One– and could have a quickfire debut against East Fife this evening.

The 34-year-old said: “I’m happy to be joining Marvin at Queens and to get back amongst a squad. When I got the call, I jumped at the chance to sign.

“I’m looking forward to joining the rest of the boys and hopefully my experience and knowledge will add value to the team.”

In a well travelled career Ambrose was initially introduced to Scottish football by Neil Lennon as a £1.1m signing from Israeli side Ashdod.

After Celtic he joined Hibs and re-united with his old boss again at Easter Road.

He stayed in the Premiership with Livingston and St Johnstone before slipping down the leagues to Dunfermline and last season played 11 times for Morton– including a return back to CelticPark in the Scottish Cup.

Bartley welcomed his experience and add: “With the injuries and suspensions we have just now we needed to add to the squad and I’m grateful Efe has joined on a short deal.

“He is someone I have known for a long time so I know what he brings and what we will get. We have a lot of talented young players, but we are currently short of senior heads. Efe will give us that experience.

“He is also a great character to have around the dressing room.”

The Palmerston Park side have also confirmed the 51-time Nigeria international will wear number 24 this season.

Meanwhile Celtic are poised to land Maik Nawrocki from Legia Warsaw, but are also running the rule over another towering defender at Lennoxtown.
